Actually now the government is thinking about taxing your mileage instead of having a gas tax. The new hybrid cars aren't using enough gas so they aren't collecting enough gas taxes and the only way they think they think they can make the taxes back that they aren't getting now is to tax your mileage. Oregon is doing a study on it right now to see if it would work. Welcome to the United States of Taxation. They get you one way or another!
